In May 2014, CTS Cleaning Solutions Ltd made the ground-breaking decision to join The Living Wage Foundation. We're proud to have been the first EVER cleaning company in the whole of the UK to pay our staff a Living Wage – and the response to this move has been overwhelming.

This means that every member of staff employed by our company is entitled to receive the official Living Wage, not just the minimum wage. The Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually, based on the cost of living in the UK.

The Living Wage campaign has been running for ten years and has lifted over 10,000 people out of poverty. Over 80% of employers believe that the Living Wage has improved the quality of work of their staff. We wholeheartedly agree and also believe that all our staff should have the opportunity to share in the success of our company.

“I have always made a conscious effort to ensure my staff earn what I value is a satisfactory wage for the work they carry out, which is physically demanding, consists of early morning/late evening starts and unsociable hours," says our MD, Peter Cooke.

"I am an ethical employer, and proud to be a member of the Living Wage Foundation, to be recognised as a company that makes sure its staff are paid well above the minimum wage. It's always been important to me that my staff, such as Zina (above) experience a better quality of life and that all-important work/life balance, so that they can spend more time with their families, where possible.”

The Living Wage Foundation has also praised our decision, saying it was a milestone in its campaign to persuade employers to pay at least £9.15 an hour in the capital, and £7.85 in the rest of the country, well above the minimum wage rate of £6.50.

Rhys Moore, Director of the Living Wage Foundation, says: “The benefits the Living Wage brings to staff and businesses is clear. I welcome the leadership shown by CTS Cleaning Solutions Ltd on this important issue.”

For us, it was a no-brainer, but for you, our clients, it carries significant importance. We've recently seen an increase in clients approaching us for work, simply down to the fact that they want to hire a fair, ethical company. Because we look after our staff – which means they'll look after you. Here's hoping we've set a standard in the cleaning industry for years to come.
